Are they based locally?

Are they Gas Safe registered?

If you have gas in the property, then the engineer you choose needs to be Gas Safe registered.  This is the only official gas registration body for businesses and engineers around the UK and all companies working with gas need to be on this register.

All engineers on the register have had a license issued to undertake gas work and have the valid and current qualifications required.  This is a bit like getting a driving license from DVLA to confirm you can drive a car – you only get one when you pass the required test.

Who do they work with?

When it comes to things like boilers, you want to see what companies they work with to make sure there’s a good range of top quality brands on offer.  For gas boilers, look for names like Ideal, Baxi, Vaillant and Hamworthy who all offer top quality products and also often approve the installers to make sure the job is done to a high standard.

Do they offer warranties?

All commercial boilers should come with relevant warranties and the company should be able to tell you the information about these before you make a purchase as they are standard to each manufacturer.  Check for any conditions that are part of these, so you are informed before you commit to a specific boiler.

Do they offer other services?

You definitely want to use a company that offer repairs and maintenance as well as boiler installation.  This means they can come out regularly to offer servicing for the boiler to keep the warranty correct and also handle any breakdowns.

It can also be worth looking at what else they do depending on the nature of your business.  For example, if you have a restaurant, you might want a company that offers commercial catering equipment installation. Also, ensure that they offer commercial catering equipment repairs and even commercial catering servicing to look after the equipment if there are any problems.
